Fiqh of eid 8: Description of eid prayer

‎1) Two rakah based upon the hadith by Umar (r) who narrates "The adha prayer is 2 rakah, the fitr prayer is 2 rakah" [Subul as salam 2:67]

2) Intention

3) Takbir ul ihram with opening supplication

4) Additional takbirs of 7 in the first rakah and 5 in the second rakahThis is based upon the hadith of Aisha (r): "The prophet (peace be upon him) would say takbir in both fitr and adha-seven in the first five in the second"[Abu dawud/Ahmad/Ibn majah and Bayhaqi- isnad sahih]

Imam baghawi says "This is the opinion of most of the people of knowledge among the companions and those after it-before reciting quran-in the first rakah of the eid prayer-seven in the first other than the opening takbir and five in the second." [Sharh us sunnah 4:309]

One should raise the hands with each takbir although Imam albani says there is no authentic proof and also should not raise the voices with each takbir behind the imam.

Imam ibn qayyim says howvever "Ibn umar used to adhere closely to the sunnah so he used to raise his hands with each takbir" [Zaad al maad 1:441]

5) Fatiha

6) Remainder of the pater is same as any other sala
